Copenhagen: Fashion Week, Crystal and Wool Throws

Copenhagen Fashion Week began in 2006 and asks its brands to meet sustainability standards. From Denmark we carry hand-cut crystal designed in Copenhagen and wool and alpaca throws from the town of Silkeborg.

Copenhagen Fashion Week

The first Copenhagen Fashion Week was held in 2006, after two Danish clothing trade fairs dating back to the 1950s merged. It is organised twice a year by the Danish Fashion Institute, and its sustainability standards ask brands to show that at least half of a collection is made from certified, preferred, upcycled or recycled materials.

Hand-Cut Crystal

The crystal we carry from Copenhagen is fine and hand-cut, made into vases, bowls, candle holders and trays, often in Art Deco shapes and colours such as rose with black. The Plinth vase is built from diamond-shaped crystal pieces in a butterfly-like form; the Frame vase scatters light across a room in clear and rose crystal.

Wool and Alpaca Throws

West of Copenhagen, in the town of Silkeborg, one family has worked with wool for three generations, since it opened a spinning mill in 1947. Its baby alpaca throws are made in Peru, where the alpaca live; its wool throws, like the 1,100-gram Harbor, are heavier and rated warmer on the maker's scale.
